MICT Induction for TVET Programme in Northern Cape
Kimberley 30 November 2021
The MICT had a requirement for the deployment of learnerships.
A Learnership is a work-based education and training programme that is linked to a qualification registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Learnerships are occupationally directed programmes that consist of both structured theoretical learning and practical workplace experience.
THE CHALLENGE
AMP Capital was seeking a compliance management system to assist in the management of risk across their very large property portfolio which includes offices, shopping centres and industrial buildings.
Prior to engaging with Setsebi Projects, the MICT team struggled with the logistics of conducting Learnerships for their learners in the Northern Cape.
The process to manage the learnership inductions was challenging across such a large portfolio. The method of how learners attending sites were processed and provided access to the site was inadequate and did not offer sufficient control of risk. Collection of learner documentation was not managed well and the allocation of learnership locations once the learners attended sites required further oversight and control mechanisms.
THE SOLUTION
Setsebi Projects was retained to induct learners prior to site attendance. Learners were required to complete an online induction course prior to site attendance. Upon arrival, to site the learners signed in at the Setsebi Projects iPad to enter their details and complete a short site safety induction.
The online induction system and access control sign-in process have provided trainers with the ability to view inductee details and course stats. Upon arrival on-site, an SMS and email is sent to the host to advise them of the workers’/visitors’ arrival.
THE RESULTS
Stakeholders within the business have responded well to the systems with staff now spending far less time managing access, freeing up their time to focus on other tasks. Trainers are also benefiting by being able to report on who is signing in and how long the learner is on-site for.
“At a corporate level, we now feel a lot more confident in being able to provide evidence of training for our learners and to run reports on this. The integration capabilities that the system provides has allowed us to ensure that learners are not able to sign into sites. This is a significant improvement in compliance.” |
